He started formal drum lessons at age 13 and has never stopped playing ever since. Allan’s style of playing is “playing for the song”, and not overshadowing the band. One of the highlights and influences in his musical journey was attending a 2 week summer jazz program for high school students, led and taught by members of the Stan Kenton big band. The finale was a performance where each drummer got to sit in and play a song with the Kenton band, which was broadcast on PBS. Playing in the SCSB allows Allan to drive the band in new directions, while always keeping to the spirit of the song.
